The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity Episode 4 Recap

The episode opens with Rintaro nervously heading to his long-awaited study date with Waguri. His restless fidgeting and darting glances make it obvious he’s more concerned about making a good impression than the studying itself; after all, his feelings for her are no longer a secret to himself. When she arrives, dressed in her usual casual style yet somehow looking more radiant than ever, he’s momentarily lost for words.
They settle into a quiet coffee shop, where the air between them hums with shy tension, stolen glances, soft smiles, and pauses that feel far too long to be casual. Waguri then surprises him with meticulously prepared study notes, having gone through the effort to predict likely exam questions. It’s thoughtful, personal, and leaves him quietly touched.

Just as the warmth of the meeting lingers, Subaru arrives, visibly unhappy to see Rintaro around Waguri. She openly voices her disapproval, but her bluntness soon gives way to vulnerability as she reveals her past. She was bullied for her unusual hair colour, with Waguri being the only person who treated her with kindness. Her hostility now carries a clear meaning: she’s not trying to keep Rintaro away out of spite, but out of fierce loyalty to the friend who once stood by her.
The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity Episode 5 Review

This episode opens with Saku and others finding out about Rintaro’s relationship with Kaoruko. They all confront him to ask why he tried to cover up the relationship with someone from the enemy school. Rintaro straightaway tells them he doesn’t want to reveal anything about her. After reaching home, Rintaro berates himself for behaving like that in front of his friends. But he’s also grateful to Kaoruko for her wishes and decides to thank her sometime, and then we see him texting her, he passed the exam, all because of her hard work.
Rintaro’s friends try to mend his relationship with Saku, but they fail because they are both awkward with each other. Later, Saku tells how he’s not mad at Rintaro for making friends with Kaoruko, but he’s mad at the fact that he doesn’t trust Saku and others enough to tell them about her. However, from this interaction, we also come to the conclusion that Rintaro, for the first time, stated how he felt and how he doesn’t want to talk about his feelings. This is also a step forward for him.

On the other hand, Waguri comes to buy cake and meet Rintaro at his shop. When she meets him, she realises that there must be something wrong going on with him as he seems visibly upset. Here, they both share a very endearing moment, and it was definitely very cute to look at.
Later, we also see Subaru meeting Kaoruko at the park. Here, there is a high possibility that Subaru will finally reveal what kind of conversation went on between her and Rintaro the previous day.
Verdict

Today’s episode was again pretty basic, and it did not have much to offer plot-wise. There was hardly any development, but we do see some growth in Rintaro’s emotions. Hopefully, the next episode will have more material.
