If you’re midway through a binge or considering starting Prison Break, you’ll need to get your skates on. If you’re outside of the United States, you only have a few weeks left to watch all five seasons of the hit Fox show, given that it’ll soon depart Netflix globally beginning in August 2025.
In case you missed it, as part of a pact with Disney, Prison Break was re-added to Netflix after a three-year absence in the US in July 2025. That was later joined by Netflix in all international regions just a couple of months later, on September 4th, 2025.
Created by Paul Scheuring, the instantly binge-worthy show follows an engineer who purposely finds himself getting arrested and sent to prison to help rescue his brother, who has been framed for a murder.
Following the addition of Prison Break to Netflix, viewership exploded. According to the Netflix Engagement Reports for the show, we know that season 1 was the 16th most-watched show of any show between July and December 2024. In fact, we know the show picked up 2.097 billion hours watched between July 2024 and June 2025, which equates to 153.79M views across all five seasons.
Beginning in September 2025, Netflix in all international regions (this includes Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, all of Latin America, Europe, and Asia), you’ll see the show depart on September 4th with a notice stating that your “Last day to watch” is September 3rd.
That means the show was only licensed to Netflix in international territories for a single year. The deal is exactly the same as the one for Lost, which has recently departed Netflix globally, except in the United States, which will see the show leave on New Year’s Day 2026.
The good news is that in all international regions, the show has a permanent streaming home in the form of Disney+, which will continue to stream the show, presumably indefinitely, although who knows with the streaming wars!
Prison Break will leave Netflix in the US in January 2026
As alluded to above, Netflix US will keep all five seasons of Prison Break a little longer, with the current removal date set for January 29th, 2026, unless a new arrangement can be made. Given that all the other Disney shows that have made it to Netflix in the US have not been renewed, we’re doubtful an exception will be made here.
You’ll have the Christmas period to watch all of Prison Break, but make sure you’re all wrapped up by then, as the show will depart Netflix in the US for good on January 29th, 2026. In the US, the show is also available on Hulu.
