A Filipino tourist Remyl Matignas (Rem) was tragically killed in Hong Kong after being struck by a cab.
On Wednesday, the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that a 35-year-old Filipino tourist was tragically killed in an accident on August 5. READ MORE HERE
The incident occurred when he was struck by a taxi cab outside a hotel in Tsuen Wan West, Hong Kong.
In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) revealed that the report originated from the Consulate General of the Philippines in Hong Kong.
They further informed that the police have apprehended the 80-year-old taxi driver.
News reports in Hong Kong indicate that the victim had just checked out of the hotel. As he was carrying his luggage and looking at his mobile phone, a taxi abruptly collided with the hotel’s facade, hitting him.
The impact hurled the victim to the ground, leaving him trapped between the taxi and the marble columns outside the hotel.
He was rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital, where he was later declared dead.
On the other hand, the taxi driver sustained minor injuries.
The cab driver was reportedly waiting outside the hotel when he felt dizzy and attempted to drive away.
Unfortunately, he lost control of the cab, leading to the fatal crash.
