Netflix has announced its third major casting for its highly anticipated Extraction series (with more to come in the coming days and weeks), which is headlined by Omar Sy, who is playing the role of Kalidou Diallo. Last week, it was revealed that Boyd Holbrook (Narcos, The Sandman, A Complete Unknown) had joined the cast, and now Game of Thrones alum Natalie Dormer has been revealed for a starring role.
First announced in March 2025, Netflix is returning to the world of Extraction, two of its most-watched movies ever, for a new spin-off series that focuses on a mercenary as he navigates a dangerous mission to rescue hostages in Libya. Trapped between warring factions and ruthless killers, the series delves into the emotional struggles of conflicted and flawed characters, each facing trauma, betrayal, and life-or-death choices.
This also marks Natalie Dormer’s third major Netflix project, having previously voiced roles in The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and Pets United. The well-known actress is primarily known for roles in titles like HBO’s Game of Thrones, The Hunger Games, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, and Inside No. 9.
Dormer’s character details are under wraps, although looking at our report from earlier this month, which looked into some of the characters we’ve been given intel on, the roles of either Amina or Priscilla could be likely. Holbrook is expected to be playing the role of Amina.
Production is set to begin in mid-September 2025, with filming set to be split between Ireland (locations in Wicklow and Dublin are currently cited) and a stint in Morocco. Filming is set to be wrapped by mid-March 2026, with the series going by the codename of Mercenary.
Glen Mazzara is on showrunner duties for the series with Jessica Granger as writer. Ari Costa, Louise Hooper, and Mark Tondera are enlisted as directors on the 8-episode series. AGBO is producing with Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Scott Nemes, Chris Castaldi, Sam Hargrave, Eric Gitter, and Peter Schwerin as executive producers.
No word on the future of the movie franchise. A third film was announced to be in the works alongside a video game a couple of years ago, but things have been quiet on that front for the moment.
