Kaiju No 8 Season 2 Episode 4: Still

The episode begins with Kafka still struggling to tap into his Kaiju abilities. Fortunately, Kikoru stands firmly by his side, shielding him with everything she’s got. As she clashes with Kaiju No. 9, memories of her late mother surface. Drawing strength from those moments, Kikoru fights with the determination of someone who refuses to lose another loved one. A flashback reveals her deep bond with her mother, a renowned Kaiju hunter, whose tragic death at the hands of a Kaiju left Kikoru emotionally scarred and burdened with guilt for not being able to protect her.

That day, she vowed to become the strongest fighter alive, making sure no one else would slip through her fingers. True to that promise, Kikoru pulls off some awe-inspiring moves against Kaiju No. 9. Initially, she assumes the monster is the one preventing Kafka’s transformation, but the truth is far more personal; Kafka himself is subconsciously holding back, fearing his own Kaiju form.

Still, the variant confronting Kafka and Kikoru refuses to back down. But after a sharp scolding from Kikoru, Kafka overcomes his inner block and finally transforms, completely turning the tide of the fight.

Kaiju No 8 Season 2 Episode 4: Still

Just when we thought everything was alright and Kafka managed to defeat Kaiju #9, things became absolutely worse. Gen, after defeating his share of enemies, realises that there was something fishy going on, as what can be the real goal of Kaiju #9, which is exactly when a warning starts to go off. We get another Kaiju sighting, and Kaiju #9’s clone confesses that it will take the Kaiju power. Not only that, we get to see that the body that everyone fought was not the actual body of Kaiju #9, and it has been acting as one of the scientists who was working in the room with Isao.

All along, Kaiju #9 was after Kaiju #2, and the one who uses it, which is none other than Isao. Everybody thought that Isao would be able to hold off Kaiju #9, but right off the bat, we get to see how much more powerful the Kaiju is. Though the best course of action would have been for Isao to evacuate as well. But he knows he cannot run from this Kaiju. Plus, if he lets him live, he can come back and hurt others. Here, Isao utilises almost 100% of the Kaiju weapon’s power, making him as powerful as a proper Daikaiju. However, this also takes years away from his life.

An intense battle takes place between them, and it is very clear that Kaiju #9 is exceptionally powerful. The battle turned absolutely ruthless, and it was difficult to see Isao having a hard time. The outcome of this battle was definitely something that I did not expect.

Kaiju No 8 Season 2 Episode 4: Still

Today’s episode was really good, as I did not think that we would get another very fight-heavy episode right after the last one that we got.  I absolutely love the way the drama, action, and tragic tones were mixed to produce one of the best episodes of this season.
