John Cena and Kevin Hart will lead Netflix’s new action-comedy The Leading Man. Currently in active development, the film is yet to find its director. We expect further developments in the next few months.
The Leading Man is an upcoming Netflix Original action comedy film written by The Meg and My Spy writers Erich Hoeber and Jon Hoeber, and based on the comic book series from Jeremy Haun and B. Clay Moore. Peter Schwerin and Eric Gitter are producers for Ignition Productions. John Cena and Dan Bain are also executive producers.

What is the plot of The Leading Man?
Here’s a logline for The Leading Man:
“When a self-absorbed movie star (Cena) discovers that his co-star/man in the chair (Hart) is an actual agent, he’s forced to swallow his pride and accept that action stars aren’t really action heroes…while trying to save the world.”
Who are the cast members of The Leading Man?
The only two confirmed cast members are Kevin Hart and John Cena.
Hart will play the role of Nick Walker. Meanwhile, the name of John Cena’s role has yet to be revealed.
Kevin Hart is no stranger to Netflix and has been a frequent collaborator with Netflix for several years, having starred in Originals such as Me Time, The Man from Toronto, Lift, Fatherhood, True Story, and multiple stand-up comedy specials.

John Cena has yet to star in a Netflix Original, but filming recently started on his first Netflix project in Matt Spicer’s upcoming comedy Little Brother. Outside of his illustrious WWE career, Cena has followed in the footsteps of The Rock, aka Dwayne Johnson, and is one of Hollywood’s top film stars, having starred in such films as The Suicide Squad, Heads of State, Jackpot, TMNT, Fast X, Barbie, and more.

At the time of writing, the film is currently in development, and it remains unclear when filming will begin.
We expect to hear more in the coming months once John Cena has wrapped on current projects and the remainder of his time with the WWE comes to an end.
When is The Leading Man coming to Netflix?
Given filming has yet to begin and is still in development, the earliest we could conceivably see The Leading Man on Netflix is the first half of 2027.
