Greta Gerwig’s Netflix Narnia Movie Starts Filming in London – First Look Photos

Netflix’s Narnia movie is officially filming, 2,503 days after the streamer first announced its plans to adapt the beloved C.S. Lewis novels back in October 2018.

This past weekend marked the first days of filming in and around Bank Station and The Royal Exchange in London for Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, the highly anticipated Greta Gerwig film that’s set for a late 2026 release in theaters and on Netflix. Lavish sets have been built to recreate post-war Britain in the 1950s, with crowds of extras spotted on location alongside Gerwig herself. The new movie adapts The Magician’s Nephew, following two youngsters who unleash the evil White Witch onto the streets of London. 

Numerous set photos have already surfaced online, backing up recent reporting from NarniaWeb suggesting the story is being shifted to the 1950s, a notable departure from the book’s original late 19th-century Victorian-era setting. One Instagram user who photographed a flower stall and other props on set claimed the film is set in 1955. Curious onlookers who asked crew members about the shoot were told only that it was for a Netflix movie.

The time shift could have big implications for future adaptations. In The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the story is anchored in WWII, and if a similar shift is applied, that could push the events of LWW into the early 2000s.

Fresh images from the weekend also show Greta Gerwig on set, as well as two young, as-yet-unidentified actors believed to be playing Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer following an extensive casting search.

To date, the only cast names attached thus far include Emma Mackey as The White Witch, Daniel Craig (as we first reported) as Uncle Andrew, Carey Mulligan in negotiations for a role, and Meryl Streep expected in the role of Aslan. Netflix has yet to confirm or announce any cast names. 

Filming is expected to take place across the South and South East, including a portion at Shepperton Studios. 

While we don’t yet have an official wrap date, based on previous production dates, we can expect it to wrap up sometime in late Winter (so early 2026).

The Worldwide Guide to Movie Locations snapped many of the posters and artwork that have been put up around the area. Many of these posters are advertising The Northfield Club in Elephant and Castle and Steapleton Empire, promoting musical acts, theatrical performances, and boxing tournaments.
