There are no shortage of action flicks based on India’s military history, but Netflix aims to celebrate the heroes who work in the shadows in their latest Original series.
Saare Jahan Se Accha (“Better Than the Rest of the World“) centers on two rival national spy agencies: India’s Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW or sometimes just RAW) and Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The story is set in the 1970s, the decade that saw India join the ranks of the world’s nuclear powers. It took two more decades for Pakistan to do the same. The new Original series depicts the covert efforts India took to stall Pakistan’s nuclear ambitions.
The series is produced by Bombay Fables, the production house behind the Netflix Original series Decoupled and the Original film Serious Men. Decoupled‘s producer Gaurav Shukla created Saare Jahan Se Accha, which is directed by Sumit Purohit (writer of Tribhuvan Mishra: CA Topper). The series consists of 6 episodes in all, with episodes ranging from 31 minutes to 46 minutes in total. It carries a TV-MA rating.

Set in the volatile 1970s, when a single move could tip the balance of power and trigger a global nuclear war, Saare Jahan Se Accha unfolds as India’s R&AW and Pakistan’s ISI clash in a deadly game of strategy. Vishnu must outwit ISI agent Murtaza Mallik in a race against time to prevent a major catastrophe.
Tasked with stopping a covert nuclear program before it ignites global destruction, Vishnu crosses enemy lines on a mission where failure isn’t an option — and the fate of nations hangs in the balance.
Who is cast in Saare Jahan Se Accha?
Pratik Gandhi (Dhoom Dhaam) stars as Indian special agent Vishnu Shankar. Gandhi says of his character: “There’s no room for error in Vishnu’s world. Every move is calculated, every emotion buried.”
Sunny Hinduja (Brij Mohan Amar Rahe!) plays Vishnu’s rival in Pakistan’s ISI, Murtaza Mallik. Hinduja stresses that the narrative isn’t one-sided: “This isn’t a black-and-white conflict.” He says of the battle between Murtaza and Vishnu: “Our face-off is less about brute strength and more about who can stay a step ahead. It’s as personal as it is strategic.”
